An Abstract Moment

I am doing something a little out of my box and making some abstract paintings. Originally they were going to live with me in my future home, but due to such positive feed back, I decided to put it up for sale.

This is one finished product. This mixed media is measured 30x40 inches and is an acrylic on canvas with newspaper, gold leaf, and ink.

This is another one in the works. I will be making about 4-5 more. Please contact me if you are interested, enjoy!

The Searcher

I just completed this painting of my boyfriend Grey! I think this painting took me longer than anything I have painted before. I thought it would be nice to share some pictures along the way.

I almost always begin with a layer in the background to figure out where everything is going to go. I paint the figure orange and start putting down green shading, followed by layers and layers of thin coats of paint.

I use oil and acrylic for different parts of my paintings, but my figures are entirely in oil.

I slowly begin to add details and washes to tighten my image.

The final product is below! I haven't taken a good quality shot yet! Enjoy the sneak peak, the final product isn't on my website yet!

One mans trash is another mans treasure.

I am so excited, Grey and I have plans to buy a place together! Of course these things take some time, but that hasn't stopped me from shopping the curb for some furniture. I have found some real gems over the years. It is a great way to recycle furniture as well as budget for those new things you really want.

I found a chest with lots of cool detail on it and I spent the day cleaning, sanding and painting it and then sanding it again.

For this piece I used a sponge and some soft soap, some medium grit sandpaper and paint samples from Home Depot, which are less than $3 a color!

I love it! I can't wait to put a tv on it and decorate the living room to match.

This is one reason I love being an artist. Being able to create something pretty as well as functional is very rewarding.

Day to day

I decided it was time that I start blogging a little bit more. As an artist I am more visual than verbal, and tend to post when I have a finished product. I forget how interesting it can be to see an artist at work!

I am a working artist in New York, but I am also a working art instructor for kids, teens and adults. I love my job and spend most of my time in The Art Studio where I work.

Many artists are night owls who tend to stay up late and paint into the early morning. I am the opposite. I am one of those rare, morning people and I like to make the most of my day.

I wake up every morning and head to The Art Studio and paint for 3-5 hours before art class begins. Then I teach all kinds of art, to all age groups, for 3-8 hours a day! I am surrounded by creativity all the time!

I absolutely love my co-workers! Working in an environment of artists allows us to bounce ideas off of each other, give and receive constant, honest critique and learn new techniques from one another. Not to mention the support we give one another. MEH art.

I also have amazing family and friends that are not part of my art family. Although they also are a wonderful support coming to all my shows and doing endless modeling for my paintings! My boyfriend Grey, is a prime example who has made a few debuts in my artwork over the years.

And of course the painting I am working on now!

I couldn't do it without you guys. Forever grateful.

Lots of New Artwork Coming Your Way!

I haven't written on here in a long time, but it's not because I have been slackin'. I have had commission after commission, and I am still working on a lot of upcoming work that will be showing up on the site soon.

I am currently working on a piece for the next Speakeasy Show. My painting will be alongside an amazing line up of artists!

I am also currently working on two pieces for my own collection, and a special piece for the Long Beach Boardwalk Fair that miss Meghan Harron and I will be vendors at this year again! I am also finishing up a Skate Deck.

All of this will be up on my site in upcoming weeks, as well as hanging in the amazing Barrier Brewery for a solo show as their first Artist of the Month. Eeeee! So excited! Check back, the date is still TBA
